Bio

Ryan has been involved in the game of football, either as a player or coach, for the past 31 years. He now enters his 9th year with American River College, serving as Offensive Coordinator and Wide Receiver Coach. As a longtime community member of the Sacramento region, Ryan is dedicated to seeking out and developing relationships with the Sac-Joaquin Section’s finest Student-Athletes and helping to insure that the talent in the Sacramento region continues to make an impact on the National level. 

 

Ryan began his coaching career at Claremont High School in Southern California in 1999. He coached at Laguna Creek High School in Elk Grove from 2002 - 2008, working in many capacities: Frosh and JV Defensive Coordinator, Varsity Special Teams Coordinator, Varsity Defensive Coordinator, and Varsity Associate Head Coach. Ryan was hired as the inaugural Head Coach at Cosumnes Oaks High School where he spent 7 incredible years working with many great people. The Wolfpack advanced to the playoffs his last 3 years, captured League Championships, and have sent scores of young men on to continue their education and playing careers at the collegiate level throughout the Pac-12, Mountain West, ACC, Big Sky, as well as other conferences around the country. 

 

In all, Ryan has assisted more than 70 players on to the NCAA and NFL level, including:

A graduate of Delta High School where he played for Coach Steve Robards, Ryan was a part of four League and two Section Championship teams that finished ranked #1 in the State in 1992 and #2 in the State in 1993, going a combined 21-1 over two years. Ryan was an All-League selection both his Junior and Senior years. He was also honored as All-North Section 1st Team, All-Superior California, Honorable Mention All-State, Wendy’s High School Heisman Finalist, and was elected into the Sacramento Chapter of the National Football Foundation Hall of Fame in 1995. Additionally, Ryan played and was an All-League selection in Basketball, Baseball, and Track & Field.

 

Ryan attended Claremont McKenna College, a Division 3 school in Southern California, where he was an NCAA Football 3-Year Starter at wide receiver and was awarded the Most Inspirational Award. He earned a Bachelor degree in History and Economics from CMC in 1999 and his Teaching Credential in 2002. Ryan has been teaching high school in the Sacramento region for 20 years .

 

Ryan and his wife Mary reside in Clarksburg with two wonderful young sons, Jackson 11 and AJ 9.
