Bio

Mike is currently starting his third season coaching at American River Junior College. He will be coaching the wide receivers and kick/punt returners. In 2014, Mike’s second year coaching at ARC became a more successful year than 2013. The team improved from an 8-3 record in 2013 to 10-2 in 2014 also the Beavers were conference champions as well as played in the NorCal championship game. In 2014 Mike helped mold receiver J’Juan Muldrow into an all-conference WR. As well as receiver Tyler Young into one of the most prolific WR in the history of ARC setting records for most catches and yards in a season. Tyler moved on and is now currently playing at Sacramento State.

In 2013 Mike coached the wide receivers and returners, he helped mold Tyler Trosin into one of the most prolific WR’s and return specialist in ARC history in which Tyler became an all-state selection at WR and All-American return specialist. All four of his sophomore WR’s last year ended up moving on to play at four-year universities. Tyler Trosin (Arkansas State), Daniel Thomas (Western Oregon University), Ference Lang (Weber State), Adonis Griffin (Southern Oregon).

He was the wide receivers coach for Sheldon High School (Elk Grove, CA) from 09-12 and was successful producing four Division 1 players Mansel Simmons (Washington State) Kyi Thomas (Sacramento State) Nate Lese (UCLA), and Taron Johnson (Weber State). One Division III player in Ben Alickovic (Univ of La Verne), and has produced multiple junior college players as well.

Mike played his college football at Sacramento State University from 98-02. Earning all Big Sky honors after the 2001 season, and also was named team captain for the 2002 season. He currently holds some Top 10 career receiving marks and multiple Top 20 marks in Sacramento State's record books. After college he went on to play arena football as an offensive specialist, he was in camp with the Arizona Rattlers in 2004 and played for the Amarillo Dusters in 2005.

Mike also has been working as an athletic performance trainer for 10 years and recently opened his own training facility in July of 2014 (pmefitness.com). Through his program Mike has helped/coached numerous athletes in many different sports in a wide variety of age groups achieve their goals. One of Mike’s recent successes is athlete DeAndre Carter with whom Mike has worked with for the past 4 years. DeAndre lead the nation 1-AA division in receptions and yards in the 2014 season out of Sacramento State and then received a free agent contract to play for the Baltimore Ravens.

Mike is a son of former NFL wide receiver Butch Johnson who played 10 years in the NFL. He played 8 years with the Dallas Cowboys and 2 years with the Denver Broncos with appearances in Super Bowls XII, XIII as a member of the Dallas Cowboys. Mike is currently engaged to Alexandra Vidal and has two kids Trey and Gianna.
