Gil Bejarano, ATC has been at American River College since 2006. He earned a B.S. in Physical Education with an emphasis in Athletic Training from CSU, Sacramento in 1994. Gil has worked in many athletic training settings. He began his career working clinically for HealthSouth as the Sports Medicine Outreach Coordinator. From 1996 until 2006, Gil had worked traditionally for several area high schools. Gil has also had the opportunity to provide athletic training services for the Olympic Track & Field Trials.

Michelle Whitehead earned her B.S. in Athletic Training from Brigham Young University in 2007 and  M.S. in Kinesiology with an  emphasis in Sport Performance from California State University Sacramento in 2010. From 2008-2010 Michelle primarily worked with women’s soccer and gymnastics while at Sacramento State. Before making the move to American River College Michelle worked in the high school setting as well as the industrial setting. Michelle jointed the Athletic Training Staff at American River College in 2011.  Michelle is also a part-time faculty member at Sacramento State where she has had many former ARC athletes take her class.  Michelle has a passion for teaching athletic training and loves the atmosphere of working at the community college setting. 

 

 

Training room Team Physician

American River College is proud to have team physicians from UC Davis Sports Medicine that work hand in hand with the Athletic Trainers at American River College. Team Physicians for American River College are Sports Medicine Specialist Jeffrey L. Tanji and orthopedic surgeon Dr. James Van den Bogaerde.  The American River College Athletic Training Facility is also a clinical site for the UC Davis Preventative Medicine and Rehabilitation Fellowship.

James Van den Bogaerde

Dr. Van den Bogaerde joined American River College as the team orthopedic surgeon in 2014.   Dr. Van den Bogaerde's research interests include clinical-outcome studies regarding the efficacy of treating shoulder and knee injuries. His teaching interests focus on developing a resident teaching curriculum for sports medicine and shoulder and elbow surgery.
