HOME OF THE AMERICAN RIVER COLLEGE BEAVERS

Beaver defeat Solano at home 7 - 4

American River College used a 4 run 8th inning to defeat the visiting Solano College Falcons 7-4 on Tuesday.  The Falcons got off to a 3-0 lead in the 2nd inning off of Beavers starter Matt Gunter (Bella Vista) who battled some wildness early, walking 4 in the first 3 innings of work.  The Beavers answered back in the bottom of the 2nd when DH James Boitano (Argonaut) singled in LF Jimmy Lunardelli (Oakmont) who enjoyed a 4x4 day at the plate.  The Beavers would tie the game in the 5th when 3B Kirby Broadbent (Oakmont) drew a bases loaded walk, followed by a Lunardelli single to left to tie the game.  The Beavers broke it open in the 8th when 1B Colton Freeman (El Camino) singled in Lunardelli through a drawn in infield with one out.  After A.R.C. loaded the bases with two outs SS Steve Mercado (Antelope)  singled to center, then managed to stay in a run down long enough for CF Brandon Raposa (Woodcreek) to score from first.  RHP Mike Marlar (Casa Roble) came on in relief in the 9th to close out the game and pick up his first save of the year.  Freshman RHP Tommy Balmain (Oakmont) picked up his first collegiate win.  The Beavers travel to Salinas this Friday and Saturday to take on Hartnell College for a pair of games.  The Beavers next 6 games are all on the road.
