HOME OF THE AMERICAN RIVER COLLEGE BEAVERS

Beavers get first win of season at home

American River College got their first win of the season at home Wednesday night in a game that was originally scheduled for Thursday, but was moved up to beat the incoming storm.  The Beavers defeated the visiting Shasta College Knights 9-1.  The Beavers out-hit the Knights 12-3, with DH Kirby Broadbent (Oakmont) launching two double and LF Jimmy Lunardelli (Oakmont) driving in a pair of runs in the bottom of the 7th with a triple to left center.  He later scored on a wild pitch to put the Beavers up 9-0 at the time.  The Beavers got out to a 4 run lead in the first three innings thanks  to  7 hits by 7 different players.  Starter Matt Gunter (Bella Vista) was effective through 6 innings as he struck out 8 and allowed just a pair of singles in the 5th inning.  The game got a little sloppy late as the dew on the ground made it tough on the fielders to make plays which led to several Shasta errors and an A.R.C. error in the 9th which contributed to several unearned runs late in the game.

The Beavers are home again on Thursday to play Feather River College at 3:00 p.m.  There will be no game on Friday, and the Beavers are scheduled to travel to Redding to play Shasta again on Saturday at 1:00 p.m.
