Beavers' bats can't finish comeback

Once again American River College got plenty of runners on base and scored 11 times- which matched last season's single game high- but the pitching was far from able to hold down the West Valley Vikings, as the Beavers lost 19-11 in Saratoga on Saturday.  A.R.C. pitchers walked 11 batters and hit two while allowing 14 hits.  The Beavers had some early miscues as well which put the team in a 10-1 hole after 3 innings.  For the second straight day the defense threw away a bunt which allowed a pair of unearned runs to score.  The Beavers did rally with the bats, closing the lead to 10-8 in the 5th inning, but West Valley was able to keep scoring, finally putting the game away with a 4 run 8th inning, topped by a 2 run home run by Vikings 3B Billy Mullins.  At the plate the Beavers were led by 2B Colton Freeman (El Camino) who had a pair of doubles and three RBI, and FR Alex Gaskin (Jesuit) who was 1x2 with a 3 RBI and a pair of walks.  1B Dalton deVries (Oakmont) added a hit and a pair of RBI as well, and sophomore James Boitano (Argonaut) got his first hit of the season, a pinch hit single to right center in the 9th inning.
