HOME OF THE AMERICAN RIVER COLLEGE BEAVERS

Bad start dooms Beavers

Freshman LHP Andrew Fuentes (Pioneer) had a rough start on the mound, lasting just a third of an inning while allowing 5 runs which was too big of a hole for the Beavers to dig out of.  Fifth ranked Feather River College used that five run first and some strong pitching to quiet the Beavers bats in a 9-3 defeat for A.R.C.  The Beavers managed just 3 hits on the day, with 1B Kirby Broadbent (Oakmont) delivering a 2 run triple in the 8th after the first two hitter of the inning had walked.  DH Dalton deVries (Oakmont) followed with a sac fly to score Broadbent.  The Beavers drew 7 walks on the day but could not capitalize on them.  Fuentes struggled early, walking three, hitting one and giving up a two run single, all before the Beavers had a chance to bat.  Freshman Tommy Balmain (Oakmont) came on in relief and did very well, throwing 6 2/3 scoreless innings to give the Beavers a chance to keep the game close.  Feather River scored twice in the top of the 8th to go up 7-0 before the Beavers scored 3.  The Beavers are scheduled to travel to Shasta College on Saturday but with the pending storm, there is a chance that it will be cancelled.  The Beavers play at home again on Tuesday against Solano College at 2:00 p.m.
