American River College picked up their 11th win of the season, ending a rough 2 week stretch with a 3-2 win over visiting Modesto JC on Tuesday.  Sophomore Matt Gunter (Bella Vista) threw 6 innings, allowing just one run but got a no decision for his efforts.  The Beavers took a 1-0 lead in the first when Kirby Broadbent (Oakmont) hit a single to short right off the out-stretched glove of Modesto's 2B, Josh Miguel to score Steve Mercado (Antelope) who had a one out hustle double to center.  The Beavers added to the lead in the 3rd inning after SS Cameron Bennett (Rio Linda) doubled to leadoff the inning, then scored on a single to right by Mercado.  Both teams were in and out of jams until the 8th inning when Modesto scored on a one out single off of reliever Kyle Grant (Burbank) who would end up with his first collegiate victory.  Grant would get out of the jam with no further damage however.  The Beavers scored the winning run in the bottom half of the 8th after a one out walk to 1B Kirby Broadbent (Oakmont) was followed by a 2 out triple to right by LF Jimmy Lunardelli (Oakmont), which scored Broadbent from first.  Lunardelli's drive appeared to have been caught by the MJC right fielder, but it was ruled that he did not catch the ball cleanly and after his dive for the ball, the ground jarred it loose.  RHP Mike Marlar (Casa Roble) worked a scoreless but eventful 9th inning as he walked his first batter of the season with one out.  After the Modesto runner stole second, Marlar struck out the next batter, but the pitch got away from C Bryan Babcock (Antelope) allowing the tying run to reach third with one out.  Marlar was able to induce a pop-up behind first base which was played nicely by Steve Mercado.  With two outs Marlar got a ground ball to short which was fielded cleanly by Cameron Bennett and thrown to first to seal the win for the Beavers.

The two teams meet again on Thursday in Modesto at 2:30 p.m.
