5 Beavers named to All-Big-8 Conference Squad

Sophomores Dalton deVries (Oakmont) and Steve Mercado were named 1st team all-conference, deVries and the Designated Hitter and Mercado as an infielder.  Mercado was also the runner-up for the league Gold Glove award for middle infielders.  deVries finished conference play 3rd in the league in batting average, hitting an even .400 with 7 extra base hits and 13 RBI in 20 games.  Mercado made just 3 errors and struck out just 4 times in 21 conference games. 

Sophomores Mike Marlar (Casa Roble) and Alex Gaskin (Jesuit) received 2nd team All-Big 8 Conference honors.  Gaskin hit .294 in conference play with 6 extra base hits and 11 RBI.  He played right field for the Beavers.  Marlar led the conference and the state in saves this season.  Of the Beavers 9 conference wins he had a hand in 7 of them, with one win and six saves.  Marlar posted a 2.13 ERA in conference play.

Sophomore Matt Gunter (Bella Vista) received honorable mention for his sophomore year, finishing conference play with a  3-3 record and a 3.45 ERA.  He had 7 wins on the season.  Gunter finished his A.R.C. career with 11 victories, and was a 2nd team all-conference selection as a freshman in 2014.  He was tied for 3rd in conference play with 35 strikeouts and 2nd in the conference on the season with 68.  His 7 wins this season is the most in one year for the Beavers since Robert Butler had 7 in 2007.
