Marlar signs with Colorado Christian

American River College sophomore closer Mike Marlar (Casa Roble) has signed a scholarship to attend school and play baseball for Colorado Christian University, a Division II school in the highly competitive Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference.  Marlar had 9 saves on the year which led the state of California, becoming the first Beaver to lead the state in saves.  His 9 saves tie him for the 2nd most in single season school history with Jake Hower in 2005 and one behind Kevin Mattox's 10 saves in 2004.  "Mike did a great job for us this year and really combined toughness and intelligence to get outs late in the game for us.  He doesn't throw very hard but he knew how to set up hitters and was very effective at hitting his spots.  With his being in the Marine Corps Reserves, we knew the toughness was there and he really put it all together this year," said head coach Doug Jumelet.

With Marlar in the back of the bullpen the Beavers were 16-0 this season in games in which the Beavers had the lead after the 8th inning.  Mike was 1-0 with a 4.50 ERA.
