HOME OF THE AMERICAN RIVER COLLEGE BEAVERS

Beavers hand another one away, lose 12-11 in 11 innings

Beavers hand another one away, lose 12-11 in 11 innings

American River College was primed to pick up their first win of the season, jumping out to a 9-3 lead in the 3rd inning, and taking an 11-8 lead into the 8th inning, but they found a way to lose, dropping the last of two games against West Valley 12-11 in 11 innings.  The Beavers pitchers once again were wild, walking a combined 11 batters, hitting 4, and balking twice.   Freshman starter Andrew Wiesenfarth (Rio Americano) struggled with his command, as he walked 6 in four innings of work.  Sophomore Tommy Balmain (Oakmont) threw three inning, allowing three runs on 2 hits, and freshman Craig Broadman (Arcata) failed to get an out in the 8th inning, allowing 3 runs.  Beavers closer allowed a run in the 11th after hitting the leadoff batter, then throwing wild on a pickoff attempt to allow the runner to third with nobody out.  The next batter doubled to give the Vikings the lead, though it was one of only two hits that Codina gave up in 4.1 innings of work.

The Beavers bats again gave the team enough support to win the game, as 7 different players chipped in with runs batted in.  A.R.C. scored 7 times in the 3rd inning, thanks to 7 hits, including and RBI double by SS Jared Biggs (Del Campo).  Freshman RF Cade Parker had a three hit day, including a triple to lead off the game.  He also added a pair of stolen bases and scored three runs.

The Beavers return to the practice field next week before suiting up at home on Thursday against Shasta College at 2:00 p.m.
