HOME OF THE AMERICAN RIVER COLLEGE BEAVERS

Beavers hammered by #7 Mission

Beavers hammered by #7 Mission

American River College traveled to Santa Clara to play the 7th ranked Mission College Saints on Saturday, and it did not go well for the Beavers.  A.R.C. did jump on the board early after RF Cade Parker (Yreka) walked and 2B Robert Contreras (Antelope) singled to center.  SS Jared Biggs (Del Campo) then singled in Parker for his team leading 13th RBI, but the Beavers couldn't get any more runs across in the first.  Mission tied the score in the 2nd inning, but the Beavers took the lead again in the 3rd on an RBI single from 3B Brayden Gomez (Bella Vista).  That was the last time in the game that the Beavers would be in control.  Mission scored three times in the bottom of the 3rd to take a 4-2 lead off of Beavers starter Andrew Wiesenfarth (Rio Americano).

The 4th inning was when Mission really pulled away, after a leadoff walk, the next batter singled.  The following batter bunted, but Wiesenfarth's throw to first pulled 1B Kirby Broadbent (Oakmont) off the bag to load the bases with no outs.  The next batter walked with the bases loaded to chase Wiesenfarth from the game.  Sophomore Tommy Balmain (Oakmont) came on in relief, but three of the next four batters got hits to make a 6 run 4th inning for the Saints.

Mission scored three more off of Balmain in the 6th by way of a pair of doubles and a two run home run, the first that the Beavers pitchers have given up this year.

The Beavers had a couple of chance to score a couple of more runs but pinch-hitter Matt Hall (Antelope) hit into a double play with runners at 1st and 2nd and nobody out in the 8th, and freshman Justin Bejarano (Elk Grove) ended the game by hitting into a double play with one out and the bases loaded in the 9th.  The Beavers have just one game next week, the last non-conference game of the season at Sierra College on Friday at 2:00 p.m.
