Beaver's miscues cost them versus #2 Delta

Beaver's miscues cost them versus #2 Delta

American River College dropped the 2nd game of the 3 game series to the #2 ranked Delta College Mustangs 9-8 at Beaver Field on Tuesday.  Delta got on the board in the top of the first when sophomore starter Dillon Bowers (Dripping Springs, TX) balked with two outs and runners at 1st and 3rd.  The Beavers tied the game in the bottom of the first when sophomore 1B Kirby Broadbent (Oakmont) singled in Cade Parker (Yreka) with two outs.  A.R.C. then took the lead in the 2nd when Parker singled to center with the bases loaded and one out to put the Beavers up 2-1.  Sophomore 2B Robert Contreras (Antelope) then hit a comebacker in which Delta's pitcher threw wildly to first bringing in all three runs and allowing Contreras to get to third with one out and the Beavers up 5-1.  Freshman SS Jared Biggs (Del Campo) then lined out to first and Kirby Broadbent grounded out to end the inning.

Delta got a solo home run in the fourth to make it 5-2, then got four runs off of Bowers in the 5th to take the lead 6-5.  The big blow was a two out ground ball to first that hit the bag and bounced away from Broadbent allowing two runs to score.

Delta added to their lead in the 7th off of reliever Tommy Balmain (Oakmont) who gave up a leadoff single, followed by a bunt single.  After a fly out, Delta's 2B Carlos Mosely doubled off the left field fence to put the Mustangs up 8-5.  After a pickoff bounced off of Jared Biggs glove and into centerfield allowing Mosely to advance to third, a groundball to short was good enough to get the run in.

A.R.C. came right back in the bottom half of the inning though, after Cade Parker singled for his third hit of the day, Jared Biggs lofted a shallow fly to center which caromed off of the diving second baseman for a one out double.  Kirby Broadbent then singled to left to make the score 9-6.  After Brayden Gomez pooped up to third with one out, LF Mike Hatfield (Del Campo) hit a sharp grounder to third which was not handled cleanly allowing Biggs to score.  DH Tyler Swank (Del Campo) then singled to left to bring in Broadbent to make the score 9-8.  Hatfield advanced to third and Swank to second on the play, putting the go-ahead run at second for C Joaquin Sequeira (Antelope), but he popped up to the catcher to end the threat.

The Beavers had a chance in the 9th after Brayden Gomez bunted for a base hit with one out, but Mike Hatfield popped up to second base on a hit and run, and the Mustangs were able to easily double off Gomez to end the game.

The two teams finish their series on Thursday in Stockton at Nick Cechetti Field at 2:30 p.m.
