Beavers blank #2 Mustangs 4-0 on the road

American River College got its best pitching performance of the year, using three pitchers to throw a shutout at the #2 ranked Delta College Mustangs in Stockton on Thursday.  Freshman LHP Kurt Johnson (Royal) threw five innings, allowing four hits, but the fourth one knocked him out of the game, as it was a line drive off of his throwing arm.  He tried to stay in the game but was not able to.  Sophomore Tommy Balmain (Oakmont) came on in relief and worked out of a bases loaded, one out jam with a line drive to 2B Robert Contreras (Antelope) who flipped the ball to SS Jared Biggs (Del Campo) to double off the runner and end the inning.  Freshman Ian Codina (Oakmont) came on in the 8th to record the final six outs and preserve the shut out.

The Beavers got on the board in the first when Robert Contreras scored on a passed ball.  The Beavers were held in check until the 7th inning when 1B Kirby Boradbent (Oakmont) singled to lead off the inning, and 3B Brayden Gomez (Bella Vista) hit a two-run homer to right, his first of the year.  LF Mike Hatfield (Del Campo) was the next batter and he walked, then advanced to second on a throwing error by Delta's catcher.  CF Justin Jordan (Folsom) then lined a two out single to left to score Hatfield.

The Beavers begin a three game series with #1 ranked Sac City College, the cross-town rivals, on Saturday at Beaver Field at 1:00 p.m.
