HOME OF THE AMERICAN RIVER COLLEGE BEAVERS

Beavers come back to even series with Sac City

Beavers come back to even series with Sac City

It wasn't the best start of the season, nor was it the best game that American River College has played this year, but the Beavers managed to hang around and got a big day from 3B Brayden Gomez (Bella Vista) to upset Sac City 6-5 at Union Stadium on Tuesday.  Sophomore Dillon Bowers (Dripping Springs, TX) was not sharp early as he allowed leadoff singles in the first two innings as well as four walks as Sac City claimed a 3-0 lead after two innings.

The Beavers had a chance to get on the board early, as leadoff hitter Robert Contreras (Antelope) reached third with one out, but Brayden Gomez popped out to short left and SS Jared Biggs (Del Campo) lined out to center to end the inning.  A.R.C. did get the offense going in the third inning however, as Gomez got the job done, singling in Contreras with two outs.

Bowers settled down after the second, not allowing another hit until a one out double drove in two to put Sac City up 5-3.  The Beavers had tied the game in the 5th thanks to a Robert Contreras RBI double down the left line and a Brayden Gomez ground ball to score Contreras.  Gomez ended up reaching on an error on the play.

The Beavers trailed 5-3 until the 8th when they loaded the bases with two outs and Gomez lined a bases clearing double to right center to put A.R.C. up 6-5.  Sac City had a chance to extend their lead in the 7th, but sophomore Tommy Balmain (Oakmont) worked out of a 2nd & 3rd, 1 out jam.

Freshman Ian Codina (Oakmont) came on in the 8th and worked a pair of scoreless innings to pick up his 6th save of the season.

The teams will meet again at Beaver Field on Thursday for the rubber match of the season series.
