Beavers win wild one at Mission 18-14

Beavers win wild one at Mission 18-14

American River College started out hot on Saturday, taking a 8-0 lead into the 5th inning.  Mission got an unearned run in the 5th, then exploded for 9 runs in the 6th inning, followed by 4 runs in the 7th to go up 14-9.  The Beavers did not flinch, however and got right back on the board scoring 6 times in the top of the 8th to re-take the lead.  CF Cade Parker (Yreka) led off the 8th with a walk, followed by LF Justin Hanlin (Whitney) who was hit by a pitch.   3B Edgar Gallardo (Riverside Poly) then hit a chopper in the hole that Mission's SS threw into right field for an error, scoring a run and putting runners at 2nd & 3rd.  C Joaquin Sequeira (Antelope) then grounded out to short to add a run and bring the score to 14-11.  RF Blake Spencer (Rio Americano) then added a single to right, one of his 4 hits on the day to score another run and cut the lead to two.  After a groundout by 2B Matt Clarke (Bella Vista), 1B Tyler Swank (Del Campo) came up and launched a deep fly ball to right center which landed at the base of the fence.  Two runs scored tying the game, then Swank ran through a stop sign at third base and there was a collision at the plate but he was ruled safe for an inside-the-park home run to give the Beavers the lead.  LHP Andrew Fuentes (Pioneer) had come on in relief and threw a clean 8th inning.  The Beavers then added three more runs in the top of the 9th to add some insurance runs.  Fuentes did not need the extra cushion though as he shut the Saints down in order in the 9th to give the 9th ranked Beavers the road victory.

Early in the game Alex Dodd (River City) hit his team leading 2nd home run of the season, which was followed up by a mammoth shot over the left field fence by Justin Hanlin, his first of the season.

The Beavers travel to Fairfield to face the 12th ranked Solano College Falcons on Tuesday at 2:00 p.m.
