Beavers lose lead to Falcons again, 7-6

Beavers lose lead to Falcons again, 7-6

For the third time in the last 4 games against Solano College, American River College took a three run lead into the 7th inning and ended up losing.  Both games last season against the Falcons, the Beavers had three run leads late and lost, and today it happened again, as A.R.C. led 6-3 in the top of the 7th, only to see the Falcons score twice in the 7th and twice in the 8th to take the lead.  The Beavers did get the tying run in scoring position in the 9th as 3B Sonny Ledford (Whitney) hit a two out double, but LF Edgar Gallardo (Riverside Poly) who had entered the game in the 8th as a defensive replacement struck out to end it as the Beavers dropped their final tune-up heading into BIG 8 Conference play next week.

RHP Micah Gunter (Valley Christian) went 6 innings, allowing 5 runs, 4 earned before giving way in the 7th to Greysen Pulsipher (Cosumnes Oaks) with a runner at 2nd and a run in.  Pulsipher walked the first batter he faced, then after a sac bunt allowed a sac fly as the Falcons pulled to within one.  LHP Kurt Johnson (Simi Valley Royal) came on in the 8th and hit the leadoff batter, then a bunt moved the runner over.  The next batter singled to left and as the throw came in the Beavers got the batter in a run down and got the out and on a close play at the plate the runner was called safe to tie the game.  With two outs and nobody on, Johnson walked the next batter.  That was followed by an error by 2B Matt Clarke (Bella Vista) allowing the inning to continue.  The next batter singled in the go-ahead run, which would prove to be the game winner.

Matt Clarke led the Beavers offense, which had 12 hits on the day, with three hits and a pair of RBI.  Sophomore DH Alex Dodd (River City) added a pair of hits, one being a two run double in the 6th inning.  C Joaquin Sequeira (Antelope) continued his hot hitting with a 3x3 day with a walk and an RBI.

A.R.C. begins BIG 8 Conference play next week with a three game series against top-ranked Delta College on Tuesday at Beaver Field at 2:30 p.m.
