Beavers can't avoid sweep, fall to Sac City

American River College dropped the third game of the season series to Sacramento City College 6-3 on Saturday at Union Stadium.  Once again, defense cost the Beavers as Sac City got on the board early in the 2nd inning as the leadoff batter reached on a catcher's interference.  After a double off of starter Kurt Johnson (Simi Valley Royal) moved runners to 2nd and 3rd, Johnson got a strikeout then a groundout to allow just one run in the inning.  The Beavers tied it in the 3rd as freshman 2B Matt Clarke (Bella Vista) singled in RF Justin Bejarano (Elk Grove) who had doubled to start the inning.  The Panthers got the lead back in the 4th as they loaded the bases with one out.  Johnson got what appeared to be the perfect double play ball to end the inning but Clarke bobbled the ball, getting just one out at first but allowing a run to score.  Sac City broke the game open in the 5th after a leadoff single, another routine double play ball was booted, this time by SS Will Floyd (Rocklin) putting runners at 1st and 2nd.  The next two batters doubled putting Sac City up 5-1.  They tacked on a 4thrun in the inning on a sac fly.  The Beavers got close in the 8th inning as sophomore LF Edgar Gallardo (Riverside Poly) laced a two out, bases loaded single to right which was also misplayed by the right fielder allowing two runs to score.

Justin Bejarano had his first three hit game of the series to lead the Beavers offensively, while freshman RHP Freddy May (Folsom) threw two scoreless innings out of the pen and sophomore LHP Andrew Fuentes (Pioneer) added a scoreless inning as well.

The Beavers take on Folsom Lake College on Tuesday in Folsom for the schools first ever meeting.
