Beavers win streak ends against Sierra

Beavers win streak ends against Sierra

The three game win streak that American River College enjoyed against Modesto JC came to an end on Tuesday as the Beavers lost to Sierra College 9-2.  It started off rough for the Beavers as sophomore LHP Andrew Wiesenfarth (Rio Americano) struggled with command and allowed a run in the first and second innings and two in the third to put A.R.C. in a 4-1 hole.  Wiesenfarth allowed 5 hits and 4 walks plus a wild pitch in three innings of work.  Sophomore RHP Craig Broadman (Arcata) came on in relief and couldn't fare much better, allowing a pair of runs in just 1/3 of an inning.  Freshman RHP Greysen Pulsipher (Cosumnes Oaks) came on and threw 2 2/3 innings of scoreless relief to keep the game close.  The Wolverines blew it open late though as they scored two runs off of freshman LHP Chris Martin (Elk Grove) in the 8th and an unearned run off of freshman RHP Freddy May (Folsom) in the 9th.  Offensively the Beavers had trouble getting much going off of sophomore Jeffrey Kersten who threw a complete game, allowing just one earned run on five hits.  A.R.C. got a run in the first when sophomore 1B Alex Dodd (River City) singled in 3B Sonny Ledford (Rio Americano) who had reached on an error.  The Beavers other run came in the 9th after CF Cade Parker (Yreka) lined a hustle double to left, then scored on a single to center by sophomore DH Andrew Fuentes (Pioneer).

The two teams will meet again on Thursday at Sierra College at 2:30 p.m.
