HOME OF THE AMERICAN RIVER COLLEGE BEAVERS

Fuentes' homer not enough as Beavers fall to CRC

Fuentes' homer not enough as Beavers fall to CRC

The American River College baseball team tried to rally from a 3-0 deficit late in the game, and sophomore DH Andrew Fuentes (Pioneer) hit a two run blast off of CRC reliever Thomas Galart, whose father Kevin pitched at American River College in 1990 and 1992, in the 9th inning to bring the Beavers to within one.  A.R.C. could get no closer though, falling 4-3 to lose the first two games of the three game series.  The Beavers won the series against the Hawks last year and will try to salvage the series in the season finale tomorrow at Beaver Field at 2:30 p.m.

Starting pitcher Kurt Johnson (Simi Valley Royal) battled some wildness but limited the Hawks to just three hits in 6 1/3 innings pitched.  He also struck out 5 on the day.

As the Beavers were trailing 3-0 in the top of the 8th, they finally got on the board on a Cade Parker (Yreka) single up the middle to score RF Justin Bejarano (Elk Grove) who had doubled for the second time in the game.  Bejarano's first double was a blast into the wind off the fence in dead center field.  Freshman C Nick Huddlestun (Rocklin) had walked and had to wait to see if the ball would be caught, then had to be held at third base.  The Beavers were unable to score him in the third inning, and that lack of execution ultimately cost the team a much needed run.
