HOME OF THE AMERICAN RIVER COLLEGE BEAVERS

Beaver miscues lead to loss

Beaver miscues lead to loss

American River College was very hospitable to the visiting College of Marin Mariners on Tuesday.  The Beavers pitchers walked 11 and hit 3 batters while the defense committed 6 errors and had several other plays that should have led to outs that did not.  Freshman RHP Chris Nam (Kalani, HI) got the first start of his career and lasted one inning, allowing a run and walking three.  The Beavers came back though, scoring twice in the bottom of the 1st, first on a Will Floyd (Rocklin) sacrifice fly, followed by a Blake Spencer (Rio Americano) double.  The Beavers pitching and defense struggled all day, as the Mariners were able to score at least one run in each of the first 7 innings.  Freshman LHP Sean Miller (Granite Bay) was not sharp and took the loss after allowing 8 runs, only four earned in 3 2/3 innings of work.  Miller walked four and struck out three while allowing 5 hits.  The Beavers made a brief run at a comeback in the 7th inning while down 13-2.  After sophomore LF Justin Hanlin (Whitney) singled to lead off the inning, freshman DH Daniel Armendarez (Antelope) walked and freshman C Casey DeMello (Valley Christian) was hit by a pitch.  A.R.C. was unable to put any runs across until with two outs sophomore 2B Christian Murua (Grant) laced a shot at the second baseman who was unable to make the play for an RBI single.  Freshman 3B Ray Henry (Colfax) then cleared the bases with a two out, three run double, his first college hit and RBI's.  That put the score at 13-6 where it would stay until the end.  Freshman RHP Nick Perry (Rio Linda) was able to keep Marin from scoring in the 8th and 9th

The Beavers next games will be in Salinas against Hartnell College this Friday and Saturday.
