HOME OF THE AMERICAN RIVER COLLEGE BEAVERS

Beavers set new school records

Beavers set new school records

The day started off well as the American River College baseball team jumped on Butte College early, scoring 5 runs in the top of the first in Oroville on Thursday.  The problem was that they then had to go out on defense.  Freshman RHP Ryne Sullivan (Pleasant Grove) was not sharp in allowing three runs in the bottom of the first.  Freshman LHP Sean Miller (Granite Bay) came on in the 2nd and allowed two more as Butte tied the game at 5.  Miller came out to start the 3rd inning but walked the first 4 batters that he faced, throwing just three strikes in the inning.  Freshman RHP Shawn Roberts (Del Campo) came on and had to pitch through some shaky defense as he allowed 11 runs over 3.2 innings, but all were unearned.  Freshman RHP John Leland (Casa Roble) faced just four batters in the 6th inning, but three of them were hits, including a three run home run.  Freshman RHP Austin Jacobs (River City) threw the 8th inning, allowing one run on three hit batters.  Sophomore RHP BJ Marshall (Valley Christian) came on in the 9th and allowed a single, then back to back home runs.  The Beavers set new school records by allowing 25 hits in the game and 26 runs.  The previous school records were 22 hits allowed to Riverside City College in 2000 and 21 runs to Delta College in 2011.

There were a couple of bright spots offensively though, sophomore LF Justin Hanlin (Whitney) hit his 3rd home run of the season, a three run shot in the 9th inning.  Freshman 1B Lane Field (Whitney) was 3x3 on the day with a pair of RBI.  Sophomore CF Blake Spencer (Rio Americano) had a pair of hits including a double and drove in three runs as well.  The 11 runs was a season high for the Beavers this year.

The two teams will meet again on Friday at Beaver Field at 1:00 p.m.
