Beavers bounce back to even series with Butte

Beavers bounce back to even series with Butte

One day after setting a school record for hits and runs allowed, American River College bounced back and defeated Butte College 4-1 at Beaver Field on Friday.  The same Butte team that banged out 25 hits on Thursday managed just 4 hits off of Beavers ace Hayden Josephson (Granite Bay).  Josephson, who threw a complete game last Friday at Hartnell College threw 7 1/3 innings today, scattering 4 hits and allowing just one run.  The one run scored in the top of the first on a two out wild pitch after Josephson allowed two of his four hits to the first two hitters of the game.  The Beavers tied the game in the bottom of the first thanks to a tow out RBI single by freshman DH Justin Borchard (Woodland).  They added to the lead in the 4th inning after CF BJ Baker (Ponderosa) drew a one out walk.  Freshman C Casey DeMello was then hit by a pitch to put runners at 1st and 2nd.  Sophomore 1B Ryan Burdick (Wheatland) then launched a double over the left fielders head to score Baker and DeMello.  Sophomore 2B Christian Murua (Grant) then singled up the middle to score Burdick and give the Beavers the 4-1 cushion that they would not let go of.

Josephson came out of the game in the top of the 8th after allowing a one single, but sophomore RHP Freddy May (Folsom) ended the threat by getting a double play ball.  Freshman RHP Nick Perry (Rio Linda) pitched a three up, three down 9th inning to earn his first collegiate save.

The two teams will meet Saturday in Oroville at 1:00 p.m. for the rubber match of the three game series.
