HOME OF THE AMERICAN RIVER COLLEGE BEAVERS

Beavers win game 2 over CRC 8-3

Nick Perry

The American River College baseball team rebounded from Tuesday's conference opener to defeat Cosumnes River College 8-3 at Beaver Field on Wednesday.  The game was moved up from Thursday due to the storm predicted for Thursday.  The Beavers got on the board early, scoring twice in the first inning after 2B hristian Murua (Grant) reached on an error and advanced to second on a wild pitch, 1B Lane Field (Whitney) singled center to score Murua.  SS Matt Clarke (Bella Vista) then doubled to left to move Field up to 3rd.  CF Logan Hall (Oakdale) then hit a fly ball to center that scored Field and moved Clarke up to 3rd.  LF Blake Spencer (Rio Americano) then hit a sharp ground ball towards second in which CRC's second baseman made a diving stop and threw Clarke out at the plate on a very close play.  The Beavers added to the lead in the 2nd inning after DH Ray Henry (Colfax) led off with a single, was bunted over to 2nd then stole third.  RF Justin Bejarano (Elk Grove) then hit a slow chopper which allowed Henry to score.  A.R.C. added a pair of runs in the 4th inning when Bejarano singled in Henry, who had walked, and Lane Field hit a sharp, bases loaded grounder to third which ended up being a fielders choice but it scored C Nick Huddlestun (Rocklin).  Freshman RHP Collin Carriger (Bella Vista) was solid, throwing 7 innings allowing just one run- a solo home run in the top of the 3rd inning, scattering six hits and two walks while striking out four.  The Beavers bullpen was a little shaky as RHP Freddy May (Folsom) walked three in 2/3 innings allowing a pair of runs.  RHP Nick Perry came on for May with two outs in the bottom of the 8th allowing a run scoring single to make the score 5-3.  A.R.C. responded by scoring three times in the bottom of the 8th, with Christian Murua lacing a two run triple to right, then scoring on a double by Lane Field.  Murua ended up with three hits, a double and a triple and a pair of RBI.  Lane Field added a pair of hits, one of them a double and three RBI and DH Ray Henry scored three runs.  Nick Perry worked a scoreless 9th to earn his 2nd save of the season, while Carriger picked up the win to improve to 2-1 on the year.

The two teams are scheduled to play the rubber match on Friday at CRC, but weather may play a part in when the game actually gets played.
