HOME OF THE AMERICAN RIVER COLLEGE BEAVERS

Beavers score runs early, can't hold lead at Sierra

Beavers score runs early, can't hold lead at Sierra

The American River College Baseball team spotted host Sierra College three runs in the first inning but then came out strong, scoring 6 runs in the 2nd inning and 3 more in the 3rd to take a 9-3 lead with freshman RHP Hayden Josephson (Granite Bay) on the mound on Saturday.  The lead was short-lived though as Sierra responded with 8 runs in the bottom of the 4th inning and another two in the 5th to earn the 13-9 win and a series sweep over the Beavers.  Josephson was not sharp early as Sierra tallied three hits off of the Beavers ace in the first, but the damage would have been minimal as Josephson struck out the Wolverines DH with 2 outs and runners at 2nd and 3rd.  The pitch was in the dirt however and freshman C Collin Martin (Casa Roble) threw the ball into right field to allow 2 runs to score.  The Beavers answered right back though as sophomore RF Justin Bejarano (Elk Grove) drew a one out bases loaded walk in the top of the 2nd.  Sophomore 2B Christian Murua (Grant) followed with an RBI single, then freshman 1B Lane Field (Whitney) tripled to right center to put the Beavers up 5-3.  3B Matt Clarke (Bella Vista) followed with a ground out to short to score Field and put the Beavers up 6-3.  In the 3rd inning Justin Bejarano extended the teams lead with a two run double, one of his three hits on the day.  Lane Field then doubled Bejarano home for his team leading 14th RBI of the season.  The Beavers scoring ended there though, allowing Sierra to sweep A.R.C. for the second straight season.

A.R.C. will start their three game series with Modesto JC on Monday, at Beaver Field at 3:00 p.m.  The game was moved up from Tuesday to try and avoid the incoming storm which calls for a 100% chance of rain on Tuesday.
