Beavers out-hit Delta but fall 4-3

American River College finished off their 2018 BIG 8 Conference schedule at top-ranked Delta College on Saturday and out-hit the Mustangs 7-6.  Unfortunately Delta out-scored the Beavers 4-3, earning the series sweep on a sac fly in the bottom of the 9th.  A.R.C. committed four errors in the game and allowed a season high 9 stolen bases.  Austin Jacobs (River City) took the loss but pitched well, throwing two innings in relief and allowing just one hit.  Jacobs pitched 4 2/3 innings in the series and allowed just two hits to Delta, who is the 5th leading hitting team in the state.  Freshman Hayden Josephson (Granite Bay) was back to his old form after a couple of rough starts, throwing 6 2/3 innings, scattering five hits and allowing three runs, two earned.

Seven different players accounted for the seven team hits, but the biggest one was a solo home run by SS Will Floyd (Rocklin, pictured), the first of his career, which got the Beavers on the board in the 4th inning.  C Nick Huddlestun (Rocklin) drove in the second run of the game later in the same inning.  The Beavers held on to the lead until Delta score twice in the 7th inning to take a 3-2 lead.  A.R.C. fought back though and got a bases loaded walk from LF Blake Spencer (Rio Americano) to tie the game.  A.R.C. could not muster another run in the 9th though, and Delta finished them off in the bottom of the 9th

American River College will finish the 2018 season with a non-conference game against Gavilan College on Tuesday at Beaver Field at 2:30 p.m.  A.R.C. has the last bye week in the 9-team BIG 8 Conference which is the reason for the space in the schedule for a non-conference game.  Gavilan is in the Coast-Pacific Conference which also has a bye week built in.
