Beavers win finale against Gavilan 18-11

Beavers win finale against Gavilan 18-11

It was a wild finish to the 2018 season as American River College defeated Gavilan College of Gilroy 18-11 in a non-conference game at Beaver Field.  The two teams have a bye week in the respective conferences this week.  Gavilan got on the board first scoring an unearned run off of sophomore RHP Freddy May (Folsom) who was making his first career start.  He is usually the closer but the starting lineup consisted mostly of sophomores for the final home game.  The Beavers tied the game in the 2ndinning as sophomore 1B Ryan Burdick (Wheatland) scored as RF Justin Bejarano (Elk Grove) reached on an error.  A.R.C. extended the lead in the 3rd inning as 3B Will Floyd (Rocklin) led off the inning with a triple.  He was brought home on a double by LF Justin Hanlin (Whitney) that was lost in the sun.  Hanlin would later come in on a groundball by SS Matt Clarke (Bella Vista) that was misplayed for an error.  Clarke would later come in on a fielders' choice by Ryan Burdick.  A.R.C. tacked on another run in the 4th as Will Floyd stole third for his 10th stolen base of the season and the ball was thrown into LF allowing Floyd to score.  A.R.C. really extended the lead in the 5th, scoring 5 times to make the score 10-2.  In the 5th Justin Bejarano drove in a run with a hit by pitch, then 2B Christian Murua (Grant) hit a sharp groundball to second to score a run.  Freshman DH Lane Field (Whitney) then singled in a run, followed by Will Floyd lacing a two run single to finish off the scoring.

The lead was short lived however as freshman RHP Shawn Roberts (Del Campo) relieved May, but Roberts was only able to get one out in the 5 batters that he faced.  Freshman LHP Sean Miller (Granite Bay) then came on but he was unable to get any outs, allowing 4 runs on four hits and a walk which tied the game at 10.  Freshman RHP Chris Nam (Kalani, HI) came on in relief and was able to get out of the inning but he did allow a run in the top of the 7th as Gavilan took an 11-10 lead.

Gavialn's lead was short lived however, as the Beavers as the Beavers scored 8 in the bottom of the 7th, with the big blow being a pinch-hit, bases loaded triple by freshman Logan Hall (Oakdale).  Justin Bejarano drove in a run on a hard hit single that was misplayed as well to allow two runs to score.  Logan Hall later drove in his 4th run of the inning with a bases loaded walk.

Freshman RHP Austin Jacobs (River City) worked a three-up, three-down 8th inning and sophomore RHP BJ Marshall (Valley Christian) got the first out in the 9th before giving way to freshman RHP John Leland (Casa Roble) to finish the game.
