HOME OF THE AMERICAN RIVER COLLEGE BEAVERS

Beavers' bats come alive in Big 8 opener

Beavers' bats come alive in Big 8 opener

With all of the rain recently, 4 inches dropped on Sacramento in a three day span, the American River College baseball team had not hit on the field since their game at Solano College last Friday.  That didn't stop them from having one of their best offensive days of the year as they opened BIG 8 Conference play by tying a season high for runs with 12, a season high 5 doubles, 6 extra base hits and a season high 15 hits.  Freshman LF Cole Hurtarte (Whitney) was 3x4 with a pair of doubles and 3 RBI and freshman SS Andrew Danko (pictured) was 3x3 with a double and 3 RBI.  Freshman 2B Garrett Glynn (Del Oro) had two hits on the day, but his bases loaded triple was the big blow that put the Beavers up 7-3 at the time and started the scoring in the teams' 5 run 6th inning.  Freshman RHP Aiden Taylor (Rio Americano) picked up his first conference win despite battling a cold, going 5 1/3 innings and striking out 6 on no walks.  Sophomore RHP Chris Nam (Kalani, HI), freshman Drake Vestbie (Reno) and sophomore Austin Jacobs (River City) combined to throw the final 3 1/3 innings allowing just a single run in the 9th inning.  Vestbie struck out the side in the 8th

The two teams will finish off their series tomorrow with a double header at Beaver Field beginning at 11:00 a.m.
