Baseball Drops Messy One to Cosumnes River

BEAVERS DROP MESSY ONE TO CRC

American River College got another solid pitching performance from freshman RHP Connor Timmins (East Nicolaus) on Tuesday at Beaver Field but it went to waste as the Beavers defense made 8 errors allowing 7 unearned runs.  The visiting Cosumnes River College Hawks defeated the Beavers 10-5.  CRC jumped on top early after a line drive to third was muffed by freshman Nick Ochoa (Segerstrom) which was followed by a two run home run.  The Beavers came back and tied the game in the 2nd after CRC had some defensive miscues of their own.  LF Michael Grijalva (Ponderosa) laced a one out single to left.  2B Marcellas Flenory (Antelope) then hit a chopper to 2nd that was misplayed for an error.  Grijalva had stopped at 2nd but the right fielder bobbled the ball allowing Grijalva to go to third.  With the CRC second baseman’s head down Grijalva took off for the plate and scored on an errant throw that also allowed Flenory to get to 2nd.  Flenory later scored with two outs on an error by the shortstop on a ball hit by Ochoa.  The score remained 2-2 until the 5th when CRC got a pair of runs on a two out single to make the score 4-2.  Timmins had an easy 6th inning but the wheels fell off for the Beavers after that.  With one out and a runner at third and the infield in Timmins got a chopper to first but 1B Bryce Sidler (Oakmont) mishandled it for an error and a run.   After a fly out should have ended the inning the Hawks scored 5 more times off of three Beaver pitchers to put the Hawks up 10-2.  ARC scored three in the 8th to make it interesting thanks to a two run single by freshman SS Cole Talley (Skyridge UT) but the rallies fell short.

The two teams will meet on Thursday at Jerry Conway Field at CRC at 2:30 pm.
