BEAVERS TAKE SEASON OPENER AGAINST WEST VALLEY

BEAVERS TAKE SEASON OPENER AGAINST WEST VALLEY

2022 got off to a rocky start at Beaver Field on Friday but ultimately the game ended with a W for the Beavers.  Starting pitcher Matt Kelly (Oak Hills) was limited to 2/3 of an inning due to arm tightness but sophomore RHP Tyler Quintanilla (Summit Shasta) came on in relief and got the Beavers through the 7th inning to pick up his first collegiate win.  The Beavers were down 3-0 going into the bottom of the 2nd when 3B Blake Yuyama (Kennedy) led off with a double to right center.  Two batters later sophomore 1B Bryce Sidler (Oakmont) doubled to center to make the score 3-1.  A.R.C. tied the game in the third when CF Lincoln Orellana (Sheldon) singled in a pair of runs to pick up his first two RBI of the season.  The Beavers took the lead in the 5th when sophomore CF Michael Grijalva (Ponderosa) singled in Orellana who had singled and stolen second to lead off the inning.  Sidler would pick up his second RBI of the game with a single to right to score Yuyama.  A.R.C. broke the game open in the 6th with 3 runs, one on a bases loaded walk by freshman DH Dominic Ott (Woodcreeek), to put the Beavers up 8-3.  American River pushed across an insurance run in the 7th when freshman 2B Nick Ochoa (Segerstrom) got his first collegiate hit and RBI as he doubled in C Kristoff Swanson (Del Oro) who had walked with two outs.  A.R.C. scored three runs on the day after there were two outs and nobody on in the inning.

The two teams meet again on Saturday at noon at Beaver Field, then will conclude their three game set on Tuesday at Mission College in Santa Clara, which is where West Valley is playing some of their home games this season.
