Men's Tennis Team Nominated for Three Individual State Awards, Cody Duong Wins ITA Player to Watch

After an intense state championship match against Irvine Valley College, the Beavers celebrated the terrific season at the annual 2016 CCCAA/ITA State Banquet. The banquet is a time to reflect on the finalized team season and a kick-off to the individual championships that begin the following day in Ojai. American River's top three players were each nominated for individual awards. Seppi Capaul, the 2015 ITA Rookie of the Year, was one of eight nominees for the 2016 Player of the Year, losing out to Hiro Koyanagi from Ventura College. The second Beaver to be nominated for an ITA award was Alex Meliuk. He was nominated along with six other players for the ITA Rookie of the Year Award, losing out to Sasha Krasnov from Cerritos College. The third Beaver nominated for an ITA award was Cody Duong in the category of Player to Watch. Duong took home the hardware, beating out five other nominees from throughout the state. Duong joins Capaul and Lovedeep Singh (2014 Rookie of the Year) as recent Beaver players to win prestigious individual ITA awards. The banquet was a tremendous cap to our team season, now the Beavers will see what they can accomplish in the individual portion of the season.
