The men's tennis team started their season against nationally ranked NCAA DII programs Holy Names University and Sonoma State University. Coach Bo Jabery-Madison explained the reason for the early season scrimmages against the four-year universities. "It is a great way to play some high-level opponents. In these types of matches we will not get away with mistakes and our deficiencies will be exposed. These matches show us exactly where we need to improve and I feel that it is the perfect way to start a season." He also added, "Those teams are at the level we will need to be playing at in order to have a chance at the state championships in April."  

Some of the highlights for the Beavers in the two scrimmages included Sam Hall and Michael Vizcarra beating the #1 HNU doubles tandem of Baranyi/Colpart 8-7(5), Sam Hall defeating SSU #4 player Alec Wong 7-6(5), 4-6, 10-7, and Rob Kendall performing well in doubles in both matches, losing to HNU at #3, 8-7(4) and beating the SSU team at #3, 8-1. There were several other highly competitive matches in the scrimmages in which the Beavers fell on the short end of the result. Michael Vizcarra played well and gave Hugo Colpart all he could handle, finally falling 6-3, 6-4 to the talented HNU #1. Paul Bhatia battled HNU #2 player Alexandre Vinee-Munoz and served for the 2^nd set, before Vinee-Munoz earned a tough break back and was able to hold off Bhatia, closing out the match 6-3, 7-5. Against SSU, Alexis Lira won the first set 6-1, but was unable close out the match, falling in three sets to former ARC Beaver legend Dylan King in three sets at #5.

The Beavers will next compete in the Modesto Invitational Tournament, where they have won the event the last two years, and finished first or second in the tourney each of the last five seasons. The tournament features most of the men's teams from Northern California, and is a great way to kick off the conference and regional season of play.
