Beavers Fall to COD for the Second Consecutive Year at State Team Championships

4/26/23

ARC-0                                    COD-5

Conference: 3-0                Overall: 14-6

After winning their fifth NorCal title in six years, the Beavers earned a berth in the dual team state championship match against the Roadrunners from College of the Desert. It was the second consecutive season that the two teams faced off for the team title. For the second straight year the Roadrunners swept the Beavers for the right to be called state champions. The doubles started off close, with #1 and #3 remaining on serve through 3-3. At #2 doubles, Jack Hall/Lenny Lin got off to a cold start but came roaring back from 1-4 down to close the gap to 4-5. Unfortunately the #1 team of Spencer Hill/Ravi Nelson and the #3 team of Julian Bilbao/Parker Perdue, could not maintain their level, and each team would lose hard fought, competitive matches to start the singles in an 0-3 deficit. The Beavers competed hard in the singles, as they have all season. Unfortunately, the Roadrunners were too strong at #3 singles, Joe Corse, and #4 singles, Nathan Caolie, and the sweep was clinched for COD. When the match was stopped Ravi Nelson was up in the first set by the score of 6-5. Lenny Lin (#2), Shane Timmons (#5), and Julian Bilbao (#6) had all lost close first sets and were in tough battles in their respective second sets. The Beavers will now compete in the Individual Championships at Ojai. All six singles players, and all three doubles teams, qualified for the event, so it should be a great final event of the season for the Beavers.
