Beaver Perform Well at Individual Championships

Fresh off their 7th NorCal team championship, the ARC men's tennis team performed very well at the Ojai State Individual Championships. Five Beaver players, including Gavin Sonntag, Enrique Silveira, Arjun Sivakumar, Tarang Sharma, and Shane Timmons, reached the 3rd round in singles. Shane Timmons had the highest quality win in the early rounds, beating Saddleback #1 player, Dawson Janeski by the score of 6-2, 6-1 in the 2nd round. Of the five singles players to reach the 3rd round, Tarang Sharma was the closest to reaching the 4th round, falling in a 3-set battle to Riverside #1 player, Emilio Real.

The Beavers performed even better in the doubles, with the pairings of Spencer Hill/Arjun Sivakumar and Tarang Sharma/Shane Timmons reaching the Round of 16 before losing to highly ranked SoCal teams. Sharma/Timmons, in particular, had a great win in the 2nd round, upsetting the #12 SoCal seeded team of Ashraf/Riggs by the score of 4-6, 6-3, 10-8. The standout performance of the tournament for the Beavers came from Enrique Silveira/Gavin Sonntag, who made a run all the way to the semifinals before losing to the eventual champions, Grove/Pardo, from Irvine Valley College. On the way to the semis, Silveira/Sonntag won two 3-set matches. The first was against Friedman/Martin (Orange Coast) in the round of 16 and the second was versus Abreu/Emery (Ventura) in the quarterfinal. The match against the Ventura team was especially meaningful, since the ARC team had previously fallen to the Ventura duo in the state team final. Additionally, the match was played in Ventura's backyard, so the Beavers were playing in front of a particularly hostile crowd. Silveira/Sonntag remained locked in and played the best match of the season in the biggest moment, matching the farthest run a Beaver doubles team has made at the Individual State Championships (Duong/Meliuk-2016 and Guenard/S. Hall-2018). It was a special end to another tremendous season for the Beavers men's tennis team
