Beavers Perform Well, Win the Doubles, at the ITA Regional Tournament

In their first competition of the season, the Beavers played extremely well in the ITA Regional event, hosted at American River College. The tournament is an individual event, with winners of the regional event earning bids to the national championships, the ITA Cup, in Rome Georgia. In the singles the Beavers were led by Gavin Sonntag who reached the semifinals before falling to eventual champion, Alex Lauinger (Bakersfield), in a tough two-set battle. Other standout performances in singles were turned in by Arjun Sivakumar and Enrique Silveira, each of whom reached the quarterfinals. In the doubles, Silveira/Sonntag earned the ITA Cup berth by winning the tournament, beating Lauinger/Yackovich (Bakersfield) by the score of 8-5 in the final. Spencer Hill/Sivakumar also made a deep run in the doubles, losing to the Bakersfield duo 8-5 in the semifinals. Silveira/Sonntag look forward to competing in the National JuCo event at the ITA Cup from October 12-16 in Rome, Georgia. The rest of the Beavers will continue training in preparation for the Fresno Pacific Invitational which will be played November 3-4.
