HOME OF THE AMERICAN RIVER COLLEGE BEAVERS

SoCal Preview

The American River College men's cross country team competed Friday at the SoCal Preview meet in Santa Clarita. The Beavers split their team into a "Top 6" team that competed in the Invitational race, and the rest of the team that competed in the "Overflow" race. Both teams easily won their respective race.

In the Invitational race, the Beavers went 1-2-3-5-8-11 in the 192-man field, achieving a score of 19 points (each runners place is his score – low score wins – top 5 count). Second place Cerritos College scored 95 points in the field of 30 complete teams. Will Reyes of ARC won the 4-mile race in 20:45, followed closely by teammates Jacob Huston and Luis Luna. Rounding out the top 6 for the Beavers were Chris Kigar (5th), Sean Jagerson (8th) and Patrick Jagerson (11th). ARC is the two-time defending state champions.

In the Overflow race, the ARC team had just seen their teammates in the Invitational race dismantle the competition. They were obviously inspired because they also scored 19 points, easily beating out Orange Coast who scored 101. Brennan Holman, in only his second cross country season, moved from 4th place to win in the final mile. A runner from Cerritos was 2nd , then it was all Beavers. ARC finished 3-4-5-6-10-12-13 to cap a great day for ARC cross country.

Next up for the Beavers is the Lou Vasquez Invitational Thursday in Golden Gate Park.
