Northern California Community College Cross Country Championships – Crystal Springs, Belmont

The American River College men's cross country teams seems to be peaking at just the right time again. The Beavers, who placed their top 6 in the top 13 places at the Crystal Springs Invitational on the NorCal course back on September 26th, topped that performance by placing 6 in the top 8 at the NorCal Championships Saturday. Their score of 23 points easily beat 2nd place Hartnell college's 63 points. Abdul hamid and Sean Gregg battled NorCal MVP Diego Leon from Hartnell and Jesus Salas of Sequoias for the first two miles, until Hamid and Leon broke away on mile three. On the final tough hill, about 3.3 miles in, Diego Leon surged up the hill and tried to gap Abdul Hamid. Hamid responded and threw in a massive surge of his own just after the hill and put a 25 meter gap on Leon. Hamid, thinking there was only about 400 meters to go continued his surge until he realized how far there was until the finish. Leon closed the gap and eventually outkicked Hamid over the last 200 meters of the 4.19 mile course.. Sean Gregg broke away from Salas over the last two miles to grab third place. The four-headed monster of Patrick Jagerson, Sean Jagerson. David French, and Aidan Schraer started the race in the top 10, then slowly chipped their way past a few NorCal rivals until they cemented their place in the top 8. Jason Morris, the 7th man for the Beavers, was racing in training shoes and didn't produce his best effort, finishing in 24th place in a time of 22:45.
