HOME OF THE AMERICAN RIVER COLLEGE BEAVERS

State championship

State championship

The 3-time defending state champion American River men's cross country team entered the State Championships in Woodward Pak as the #2 ranked team in California. With hopes of continuing the streak and building it to four straight titles, the Beavers had their work cut out against the rest of California, and State #1 College of the Canyons. Coming off of a dominating effort at the NorCals, hopes were high, but the reality was the team had their work cut out for them. Early in the race the Beavers looked good with their top 7 all in the top 35-40. But as the race entered the last mile and the pace lifted several of the Beavers could not match the pace and fell off slightly. Moving up quickly over the last mile were brothers Patrick and Sean Jagerson. In the end, College of the Canyons 3-4-5 attack would prove too much for the Beavers 5-6-7. The Beavers would place 4 in the top 15, and 4 in front of Canyons #2, but the gap back to ARC's #5 would be too much and the Beavers would fall to Canyons 79-86. Receiving All-American honors for the Beavers were freshman Sean Gregg (10th – 20:29), sophomore Sean Jagerson (12th – 20:35), and freshman Abdul Hamid (14th – 20:36). Finishing just out of the Top 14 and All-American status was 15th place sophomore Patrick Jagerson (15th – 20:37). Rounding out the top 7 for the Beavers were sophomore Aidan Schraer (41st – 21:09), freshman David French (45th – 21:14) and sophomore Jason Morris (53rd – 21:21).This was the 5th straight Top 2 team finish for the Beavers and the 9th Top 5 team finish in the last 12 years.

After the NorCal Championships Coach Anderson was voted the 2014 NorCal Coach of the Year.
