Season Preview

The ARC women open up the season in the Cosumnes River College Tournament against Feather River, and they will be relying on some local talent to start the campaign on a strong note.  Though not deep, the Beavers make up for a lack of numbers with players who have been pushing each other for playing time.  Though not tall, ARC makes up for a lack of big bodies with athleticism and quickness.

Shirvonna Grays (Grant) transferred from Sacramento City and brings to ARC some needed inside strength.  The 5’ 10” sophomore will be a rebounding power forward and a defensive specialist as the Beavers enter the tough Big 7 Conference this season.  The only other sophomore on the roster is Michelle Heuer (Highlands), a 5’ 9” forward.

Team co-captain Melissa Rice (El Camino) is ARC’s top shooting threat and, according to head coach J.R. Matsunami, is the spark plug on the offensive end.  Stephanie Nelson (Center), the other co-captain of the squad, is the floor leader and shooting threat from the perimeter.  She is also counted on to be a defensive stopper.

The roster is rounded out with freshmen guards, including Danielle Gant (Grant), Alison Hunkins (Amador), Krystal Mohr (Ponderosa), Crystina Osborne (San Benito), Kristena Rump (Colfax), and Katoria Thompson (Grant).
