Dynamic Duo

The ARC mother-daughter tennis team of Lilana and Eva Spindler had a magical run at the recent state tournament, as they finished second in a field of 64 doubles teams – beating California's best and brightest along the way.

At the state California Community College Athletics Association tournament held in Ojai April 25-29, Lilana and Eva beat five different opposing teams (including a #1 seed) to reach the finals. There Lilana and Eva fell just short to a duo from Cerritos College, 6-3 6-0.

"I couldn't be prouder of Eva and Lilana," said Head Coach Steven Dunmore. "They faced the best competition in the state, never backed down, and just had a sensational tournament."

The entire women's tennis team enjoyed success in Ojai.

In singles action, Eva Spindler reached the quarterfinals round of 8 with a run of victories (6-1 6-3, 6-0 6-2, and 6-1 6-3). She lost in the quarterfinals to the eventual singles champion from Cerritos College. Lilana reached the singles round of 32 with a first-round 6-1 6-3 victory.

ARC's Kirsten Chrisco fell in a tough match in the singles round of 64, 4-6 7-5 6-1. Chrisco advanced to the round of 16 in doubles, teaming with Viktoriya Lavor. In singles competition Lavor was victorious in the first round 6-0 6-0 but fell in the round of 32, 6-1 6-1.

ARC's Sabryana Boudreau  competed in both singles (reaching the round of 64) and doubles (with teammate Michele Camacho).

This postseason success follows a regular season that saw ARC win the Big 8 Conference title for the second year in a row. The Beavers finished runner-up for the northern California title, closing with a record of 13-2.

As a result of this excellence, Dunmore was honored as the Wilson ITA California Coach of the Year.

"I am just so proud of this team. They are building a strong legacy for the future," Dunmore said.

Only two years ago the Beavers were 0-8. It's clear now that the future looks bright for ARC women's tennis.
