The lady Beavers had a successful opener at their first competition of this 2018 season. They landed on the top spot of the nine teams competing at the ALCAL 49er Meet in Yuba City on Feb. 24, 2018.

Sophomore thrower, Sierra Sheppard led her team by winning both the Shot (12.50 m), which is the 3rd best mark in the state, and the Discus (43.38m). Her discus mark is currently the top mark in the CCCAA California Community Colleges for our state. She also broke her own ARC school record. Sheppard hit the State "A" qualification mark in both events as well.

Sophomore, Andrea Stark (former Center HS) was a three time champion winning the 100 hurdles (15.52), which is the 5th best mark in the state. Stark also led off both the 4X100, and 4X400 relays that are now listed as the 4th and 3rd bet marks in the state. Stark hit three new provisional marks for each of these events.

Stark's teammates in the winning relays included, freshman Meaghan Rogers (St. Francis HS), freshman Tajanell Strawder (Franklin HS), and anchor freshmen Raevyn Lawler (Cosumnes Oak HS). Their 4X100 winning time of 49.39, and the teams 4X400 time of 4:10.36, were great confidence boosts for this early.

Rodgers also won the open 100m with her 12.16, which earned her provisional mark and third best in the state.

Freshman, Jocelyn Brelsford (former Whitney HS) was second in the 5K (19:39), which is currently the 3rd best mark in the state.

"It was a great start to our season", responded Coach Jeanette Powless.

"We have a lot of work to do, but we are definitely headed in the right direction. We are optimistic for a successful season to unfold".

Next up for the lady beavers will be their first home competition with the Beaver Relays hosted on Saturday, March 3rd.
