Bio

Coach Michael Reid is a J. F. Kennedy High School graduate (’76), where he competed on the track and soccer teams.  He attended Sacramento City College, and Cosumnes River College, while competing in track where he was unable to finish his seasons due to injury.  He later he enlisted in the US ARMY (1981).

He started coaching in 1998 for C.K. McClatchy and John F. Kennedy.  He also coached for Foothill and Del Campo High Schools in 2005-2006. Coach Reid continues to assist with the high school track and field programs.  He was recruited to help High School with programs lacking specialty coaches which led to coaching jumpers- Kendal Neilsen (Bear River HS/CAL POLY SLO) and Meghan Tucker (Placer HS/UCLA) to name a few.  Neilson and Tucker consecutively dominated, by winning, the horizontal jumps for 4 straight years in the San Joaquin section.

Coach Reid coached one year at Sacramento City College before moving over to his current home at American River College from the fall of 2005 to the present. Since his arrival, he has been instrumental in dominating and re-writing the sprint record books at American River.

    • California Community College Assistant Coach of the Year-2007-W, 2012-M
    • Two State Championships: 2007-W and 2011-M
    • 2014 Jr. National Championships Podium finisher - Robert Ellis III – 200m (3rd Pl)
    • Coached 70 Conference Champions, 28 Nor-Cal Regional Champions, 14 State Champions, and 88 All-Americans from 2005 to present (California Community College)
    • 5 High School State Meet Qualifiers (1998 – 2014)
    • Selected to “Emerging Coaches Elite Clinic” at the USATF Chula Vista Training Center-2009
    • USATF Level II Sprint, Hurdles, Relays and Jumps certified 2006/2013
