2005-06 Summaries

November 16, 2005

ARC 3, Diablo Valley 1                                             13-13 Overall                      5-7 Conference

The Beavers finished the season with a win over the Vikings, 30-27, 25-30, 30-23, 30-25.  Everyone contributed to the team’s great play in the match, according to head coach Kat Sullivan-Torrez.  Sophomore Jessica Simpson turned in another outstanding all-around performance with 19 kills and 17 digs.  Jennie Bradford, Liz Youmans, and Cassie Baxter each added 10 kills.  Setters Christina Moylan and Megan Polisso controlled the offense, feeding up 22 assists apiece.  Baxter and Aki Nakajima both finished with 19 digs.  Youmans had a team-high four service aces.


November 9, 2005

ARC 3, Sierra 0                                                        12-13 Overall                      4-7 Conference

On Sophomore Night, the Beavers scored a big home-court victory over the Wolverines.  ARC came from behind in each set to win the match 33-31, 31-29, 30-20.  In the first game, the Beavers came back from a 29-24 deficit win, and then virtually repeated the performance in the second game.  Outside hitters Cassie Baxter and Jessica Simpson totaled 16 and 15 kills, respectively.  Setters Megan Polisso (21 assists) and Christina Moylan (20) guided the offense with sharp passing.  The defense was led by Simpson’s 26 digs and Aki Nakajima added 25.  At the net, Jennie Bradford finished with five blocks.


November 4, 2005

Santa Rosa 3, ARC 0                                               11-13 Overall                      3-7 Conference

The Beavers came out flat against the Bear Cubs and fell 30-22, 30-14, 30-18.  Outside hitter Jessica Simpson had 11 kills while setter Christina Moylan dished out 15 assists.  Aki Nakajima had 15 digs in the match.


November 2, 2005

ARC 3, Cosumnes River 0                                       11-12 Overall                      3-6 Conference

The Beavers rebounded with strong showing against the Hawks, sweeping them for a 30-23, 30-15, 30-15 win.  ARC played great defensively and the hitters played smart, led by Jessica Simpson’s 19 kills.  Megan Polisso had 19 assists and Christina Moylan added 15.  Cassie Baxter finished with 19 digs and three service aces.  Jennie Bradford led the team with five blocks.


October 28, 2005

Sacramento City 3, ARC 0                                       10-12 Overall                      2-6 Conference

The Beavers turned in their poorest performance of the season against their cross town rivals.  Troubles passing led to offensive problems—the team totaled only 16 kills the entire match—as ARC fell 30-15, 30-11, 30-22.


October 26, 2005

Delta 3, ARC 0                                                         10-11 Overall                      2-5 Conference

The Beavers hosted the No. 1-ranked team in the state, and made the Mustangs work for every point they got as ARC fell 30-19, 30-18, 30-27.  Several players turned in strong performances for the Beavers.  Outside hitters Jessica Simpson had nine kills and Cassie Baxter finished with eight.  Setter Megan Polisso served up 14 assists to lead the offense.  Aki Nakajima had 11 digs in the match while Jennie Bradford led the team with two blocks.  Christina Moylan served up four aces in the contest.


October 21, 2005

ARC 3, Diablo Valley 2                                             10-10 Overall                      2-4 Conference

The Beavers again had to dig out of a 2-0 hole, but this time they finished off the Vikings to take the league match 25-30, 23-30, 30-23, 30-19, 15-10.  “With major lineup changes, it took us two games to settle and adjust,” said coach Kat Sullivan-Torrez.  “But we came back the next three games for the win.”  Cassie Baxter and Jessica Simpson led the offensive charge as the outside hitters collected 20 and 19 kills, respectively.  Middle blocker Jennie Bradford added 13 kills.  Setters Christina Moylan (29 assists) and Megan Polisso (24 assists) controlled the passing lanes, and Simpson finished with five service aces.  Aki Nakajima had 27 digs, and Bradford added four blocks to key the defense.


October 19, 2005

Butte 3, ARC 1                                                         9-10 Overall                          1-4 Conference

The Beavers fell to the Roadrunners 30-22, 30-23, 30-24 in the non-conference match on the road.  Outside hitter Jessica Simpson’s 11 kills and setter Christina Moylan’s 20 assists led the offense.  Aki Nakajima had 17 digs in the match, and Jennie Bradford  had three blocks to pace the defense.


October 14, 2005

  Sierra 3, ARC 2                                                       9-9 Overall                         1-4 Conference

The Beavers came back from two down to the Wolverines before losing a nail-biter in the final game to fall 30-24, 30-21, 23-30, 25-30, 16-14.  Outside hitters Jessica Simpson and Cassie Baxter finished with 13 and 11 kills, respectively.  Christina Moylan guided the offense with 27 assists and Megan Polisso added 13.  Jennie Bradford had five blocks on the frontline of the defense, and on the backline Jamie Case and Aki Nakajima each totaled 18 digs and Baxter had 16.


October 12, 2005

Santa Rosa 3, ARC 1                                               9-8 Overall                           1-3 Conference

The Beavers hosted a strong Bear Cubs squad and showed they are a team that will contend in the tough conference.  Middle blocker Liz Youmans went down in the third game with a sprained ankle and returned in the fourth game, but ARC was unable to regain its composure after that, finally falling 25-30, 30-23, 30-11, 30-23.  Outside hitters Cassie Baxter and Jessica Simpson had 12 and 10 kills, respectively, while setter Christina Moylan had 19 assists.  Jamie Case and Baxter each had 10 digs while Moylan added nine.  Simpson finished with three service aces and three blocks to lead the team.


October 8, 2005

ARC 3, Siskiyous 1                                                  9-7 Overall                          1-2 Conference

The Eagles took the first game, but it was all ARC after that in the closely-contested match, 23-30, 30-27, 30-26, 30-24.  Jessica Simpson was seemingly everywhere on the court, turning in the best all-around performance on the squad by finishing with 17 kills, 12 digs, seven service aces, and four blocks.  Jennie Bradford had 13 kills to join the attack.  Christina Moylan had 36 assists and Jamie Case finished with 21 digs.


October 7, 2005

ARC 3, Cosumnes River 0                                       8-7 Overall                          1-2 Conference

The Beavers turned in an all-around performance against the Hawks, cruising to a 30-20, 30-21, 30-12 conference win.  Jessica Simpson had 13 kills while Jennie Bradford and Cassie Baxter each added 11.  Christina Moylan assisted on 45 scores and had 13 digs.  Jamie Case had 27 digs, and Aki Nakajima added 11.


October 5, 2005

Sac City 3, ARC 0                                                    7-7 Overall                           0-2 Conference

The Beavers made it interesting with a run late in the final game, but fell to the Panthers 30-20, 30-14, and 30-23.  Jessica Simpson had eight kills in the match while setter Christian Moylan had 17 assists.  Defensively, Jamie Case ended with 23 digs and Camille Hansen had three blocks at the net.

October 1, 2005

ARC 3, Diablo Valley 0                                              7-6 Overall                         0-1 Conference

The Beavers swept to the tournament championship behind a dominating performance from Christina Moylan.  The freshman setter ended with 47 assists and was named the tournament’s Most Valuable Player.  Jessica Simpson garnered All-Tournament honors for the second time this season with 23 kills against the Vikings.  Jamie Case had 23 digs and Simpson added 16 to guide the defensive effort.  As in the game earlier in the day, Liz Youmans turned in another outstanding performance.

ARC 3, Merced 0                                                     6-6 Overall                          0-1 Conference

The Beavers used a balanced attack in holding off the Blue Devils 30-25, 30-27, 30-18.  Setter Christina Moylan turned in another solid game, finishing with 30 assists.  ARC’s defense stepped up, led by Jamie Case’s 19 digs, and nine digs apiece for Jessica Simpson and Jennie Bradford.  Simpson also had four service aces while Liz Youmans added three.  At the net, Youmans led the team with 10 kills and Cassie Baxter spiked nine.


September 30, 2005

Delta 3, ARC 0                                                         5-6 Overall                          0-1 Conference

The Beavers finished strong against the Mustangs, but the first two games of the match led to the loss in the league opener.  Cassie Baxter had 11 kills, Christina Moylan had 20 assists, and Jamie Case came up with 14 digs, but it was not enough as Delta swept to a 30-11, 30-11, 30-28 victory.


September 28, 2005

ARC 3, Napa Valley 0                                               5-5 Overall                         0-0 Conference

In a strong team performance, the Beavers rolled to a 30-13, 30-9, 30-16 sweep of the Storm.  Christina Moylan controlled the offense with 38 assists, passing off to Jessica Simpson for 17 kills and Cassie Baxter—who, according to Coach Kat Sullivan-Torrez, made zero errors in the match—for 10 more.  Simpson recorded six service aces and Jamie Case had 14 digs in the win.


SAN JOSE CITY COLLEGE CLASSIC

September 24, 2005

Sac City 3, ARC 0                                                    4-5 Overall                          0-0 Conference

The Beavers took fourth place in the 16-team tournament as the Panthers swept with scores of 30-21, 30-25, 35-33.  Cassie Baxter finished with 15 kills and All-Tournament selection Jessica Simpson added 11.  Christina Moylan had 30 assists.

San Jose 3, ARC 0                                                   4-4 Overall                          0-0 Conference

The Jaguars took three closely-contested matches from the Beavers, 30-25, 30-26, and 30-28.  Jessica Simpson had 18 kills and Cassie Baxter had seven, mostly on passes from setter Christina Moylan, who finished with 24 assists.  Simpson also contributed three service aces.

September 23, 2005

ARC 3, Taft 0 (forfeit)                                               4-3 Overall                          0-0 Conference

Due to the critical illness of assistant coach Keali’I Pearl, who is also the sister of head coach Kanoe Bandy, the Cougars had to forfeit the contest.

ARC 3, Porterville 2                                                  3-3 Overall                          0-0 Conference

The Beavers made a great comeback against the Pirates, coming from two games down to win 24-30, 21-30, 30-21, 30-20, 15-12.  Outside hitter Jessica Simpson led the charge with 21 kills while Jennie Bradford contributed 12 kills and six blocks.  Setter Christina Moylan had 32 assists and three service aces to control the offense.  Jamie Case had 16 digs.


September 16, 2005

ARC 3, Chabot 0                                                       2-3-0 Overall                     0-0-0 Conference

The Beavers turned in a strong all-around performance against the Gladiators, sweeping to the win with scores of 30-22, 30-15, 30-26.  Freshman setter Christina Moylan had 21 assists and sophomore Jessica Simpson was on the receiving end of many of those, finishing with 10 kills.  Simpson also turned in another strong serving game, totaling eight aces.  Sophomore Jamie Case had 15 digs in the match.

September 10, 2005

Shasta 3, ARC 1                                                      1-3-0 Overall                      0-0-0 Conference

Against the Knights, the Beavers rebounded with a stronger effort, but fell short 30-19, 30-25, 26-30, 30-20.  Setter Megan Polisso had 39 assists, 15 of which went to outside hitter Cassie Baxter, who finished with 15 kills.  Jamie Case and Camille Hansen led the defense as Case had eight digs and Hansen had four blocks.

San Jose 3, ARC 0                                                   1-2-0 Overall                      0-0-0 Conference

The young Beaver squad went flat in the American River College Classic tournament, beginning with a loss to the Jaguars, 30-25, 30-23, 30-26.  Jessica Simpson paced the offense with 12 kills while setters Christian Moylan had 17 assists and Megan Polisso finished with 18.


September 7, 2005

ARC 3, Reedley 2                                                    1-1-0 Overall                      0-0-0 Conference

ARC got in the win column by taking a well-earned nail-biter over the Tigers, 30-23, 28-30, 30-26, 21-30, 15-11.  Outside hitters Jessica Simpson and Cassie Baxter led the charge with 20 and 17 kills, respectively.  Simpson also contributed with seven service aces during the match.  Middle blocker Liz Youmans led the defensive effort with six blocks, aided by 13 digs from Jamie Case and nine from Megan Polisso.


September 2, 2005

Fresno City 3, ARC 1                                               0-1-0 Overall                      0-0-0 Conference

The Beavers opened the season against a strong Fresno squad, falling to the Rams 30-26, 30-23, 25-30, 30-24.  Sophomore outside hitter Jessica Simpson led the offense with 17 kills, followed by Cassie Baxter’s 14 and 12 from Jennie Bradford.  Setter Christina Moylan was credited with 37 assists.  Jamie Case had 13 digs while middle blocker Camille Hansen finished with 3 blocks.
