ARC 3, Diablo Valley 1                                                    1-9 Overall             1-0 Conference

The Beavers opened Big 7 play with their first win of the year, taking three games from the Vikings, 30-25, 30-21, 23-30, 30-26.  Playing team ball and focusing on the positive, ARC controlled the tempo of the first two games of the match.  Setter Chris Moylan led the team, picking up a season-high 31 assists in the contest.  The Beavers lost some of their momentum coming out in game three, but they bounced back in what would be the closing game.  The deciding game in any match is the hardest one to win, and ARC learned that against Diablo Valley.  The team finished the match with 67 team digs and positive hitting percentages from all attackers.

San Jose 3, ARC 0                                                          0-4 Overall              0-0 Conference

In the second game of the Classic, the Beavers tried some new lineups against the Jaguars.  The shakeup created more offense for ARC, but it was not enough to knock down the bigger San Jose line, which controlled the net in a 30-25, 30-10, 30-18 win.  ARC had five blocks and six service aces in the match.  Megan Polisso led the offense, hitting 50% of her kills; she was named to the all-tournament team.

Taft 3, ARC 1                                                                   0-3 Overall             0-0 Conference

At home for the first time, the Beavers opened with the Cougars in the Beaver Classic.  Unlike the first matches of the season, ARC started slow and gave up too many easy points to Taft, which went on to win 30-25, 30-23, 27-30, 30-19.  But the second was much closer, and the Beavers carried that momentum into the third game, which they won behind the hitting of Sidney Hilton and Julie Meline.  Christina Moylan dished up 23 of the team’s 28 assists.  Defensively, ARC finished the match with 33 digs.

Reedley 3, ARC 0                                                            0-2 Overall             0-0 Conference

The Beavers held steady for the first half of the opening game, but the Tigers took over en route to a 30-11, 30-17, 30-18 sweep.  In the final two games, ARC made some adjustments in its offense and defense, which helped, but the larger Reedley squad overmatched the smaller Beavers at the net.  Teams defense was again a highlight as ARC totaled 28 digs—Sidney Hilton and Julie Meline each had seven—and six blocks in the match.  Setter Christina Moylan led the team with 11 assists.

Fresno 3, ARC 0                                                               0-1 Overall              0-0 Conference

The Beavers opened on the road and started off strong, against the Rams, but Fresno City took control and won the match 30-24, 30-12, 30-28.  ARC led early in the first game before getting edged at the end.  In game two, Fresno City shifted into high gear to cruise to the win, but ARC came back in the final game to push the Rams all the way to the final point.  Outside hitter Anne Moungatonga connected on 36% of her kills, and Danielle Quelle led the team in blocks with five in the match.  The Beavers’ team defense did a great job of adjusting to the Fresno City attack, and by the end of the match ARC totaled 23 digs.
