2007-08 Meet Summaries

State Championship TOURNAMENT

The Beavers, the Big 8 and NorCal champions, finished 15th at the State Meet at Woodward Park in Fresno.  ARC was the top finisher among the Northern California schools.  As she has all season, Krystal Buck paced ARC with a time of 20:46 over the 5K course.  Buck finished 78th in the field of 189 runners.  Lyndsi Riley crossed just after Buck, finishing in 20:53 and 85th place.  Sherrie Rouse and Tina Kukharets finished back-to-back, clocking times of 21:31 and 21:32, respectively.  Sierra Wilkey finished 141st with a time of 22:11, and Joelle Gibson was the final ARC runner to finish, crossing in 153rd place with a time of 22:38.

Northern California Championships

Coming off the Big 8 championship the previous week, the Beavers ran to their second consecutive title by winning the NorCal meet at Beale’s Point in Folsom.  ARC finished with 105 points, well ahead of second-place San Mateo (125) and third-place Yuba (155).   Each ARC runner improved on her season best mark.  Krystal Buck led the squad again with her 19:20 time over the 5K course, fast enough for sixth place in the field of 109 runners.  Sherrie Rouse was 10th with a time of 19:58 while Tina Kukharets (18th place in a time of 20:25) and Lyndsi Riley (20th, 20:30) were not far off her pace.  Sierra Wilkey (22:07) was 53rd, Joelle Gibson (22:09) was 54th and Cristina Ionescu (25:56) was 171st.  The Beavers’ next meet is Nov. 17 when they travel to Fresno for the State Championships at Woodward Park.

Big 8 Conference Championships     

The Beavers ran to their second straight league title, dominating the field at Sierra College.  Second-place Diablo Valley was 17 points off the pace as ARC put itself into position to win this week’s NorCal Championships at Beals Point at Folsom Lake.  The Beavers have been undefeated in Northern California competition all fall.  In the Big 8 Championships, Krystal Buck led ARC with a 21:28 time over the challenging 5K course, fast enough for fourth place.  Lyndsi Riley ran to a ninth-place finish with a 22:08 mark, and Tina Kukharets came across right on her heels at 22:15.  Sherrie Rouse finished 15th (with a time of 23:04), Sierra Wilkey was 21st (23:49), Joelle Gibson 29th (24:32), and Cristina Ionescu came in 38th (27:28).

Gary Judd Invitational

The Beavers ran to another convincing win at the Sierra meet in Rocklin.  ARC topped the second-place Wolverines by 48 points.  ARC runners showed significant improvement, beginning with overall champion Krystal Buck, who clocked a 20:59 over the challenging 5K course.  Lyndsi Riley was fourth with a time of 22:14, Tina Kukharets finished sixth at 22:50, and Sherrie Rouse also placed in the top ten with her ninth-place finish in 23:07.  Sierra Wilkey came in 11th with a time of 23:32, Cristina Ionescu was 34th with a 28:34 run, and Angie Leon was 47th at 29:36.

Sacramento Cowtown 5K

The Beavers dominated Sunday’s road race.  Krystal Buck led her squad by winning her age group (16-18) in 19:37.  Lyndsi Riley was next in 20:10, followed by Tina Kukharets in 20:38.   Sherrie Rouse finished fifth at 21:26, and Sierra Wilkey ran to a 21:44 finish.  The most improved time was clocked by Joelle Gibson, who cut 2:03 off her seasonal best, finishing in 22:51.  Angie Leon and Cristina Ionescu ran together finishing in 27:32.

Lou Vasquez Invitational

Each of the Beavers competing set a seasonal-best mark over the 5K course in San Francisco’s Golden Gate Park.  ARC finished third in the meet behind Los Angeles Trade Tech and Moorpark.  Krystal Buck led the Beavers, finishing the run in 19:32, which placed her seventh overall in the field of 135 runners.  Lyndsi Riley was 16th in 20:39, followed closely by teammate Tina Kukharets in 20:41.  Sierra Wilkey was 53rd, cutting 41 seconds off her best mark with a 21:52 effort.  The biggest improvement was made by Sherrie Rouse, who cut 2 minutes off her best mark to finish 34th in 22:31.  Angie Leon ran a 26:46, and Cristina Ionescu rounded out the squad after taking a wrong turn and finished in 27:08.

Golden West Invitational

The Beavers ran to a third-place finish on the soggy 5K course at Central Park in Huntington Beach.  For the second consecutive week, ARC was the top finisher from Northern California.  For the fifth consecutive week, Krystal Buck led the Beavers with a time of 19:12 and a 10th place finish.  Lyndsi Riley was right behind Buck with a 19:24 run, and Tina Kukharets finished at 19:56.  Sierra Wilkey (21:13) and Sherrie Rouse (21:38) rounded out the top five for ARC.  “The team is really starting to shape up, but has a ways to improve before our conference championships.  They are really working hard and it’s starting to pay off,” said Coach Jeanette Powless.

Fresno Invitational

The Beavers finished 10th, the top team from the north, in the statewide 5K event.  ARC sophomore Krystal Buck led the Beavers with a time of 20:22, good enough for 23rd in the field of nearly 200 runners.  Lyndsi Riley was the second ARC runner to cross the finish line at 20:54, and Tina Kukharets ran a 21:50.  Freshman Sierra completed the course in 23:12, and Sherrie Rouse rounded out the top five ARC finishers with a 23:51.
