Northern California Championships

Sara Howard is not only the Big 8 Conference Champion, but also the Northern California Champion as well. She took the lead shortly after the mile mark and never looked back to finish the challenging Crystal Springs Course in 18:08.  A personal best for her and a great lead into our State Meet Championships to be held on Sat. Madison Houk

Monica Madavi was the most improved by slicing :50 off her previous best to finish 57th in 21:43 and Rosa Guerrero cut :38 off her previous best to finish 66th in 22:28.

”It was terrific to have Conference Champions in both the overall Men’s and Women’s races (with Wyatt Landrum winning the men’s race). I don’t think that has ever happened in the history of our school. It was also great to see every ARC lady have her best performance this season.  They are working hard and all moving in the right direction.  We’re really looking forward to our State Meet Championships”, says Coach Powless.

ARC ladies easily advanced to the State Championships, finishing 5th of the top 10 schools that qualify forward.  Team scores were as follows:

"We had some great performances in addition to Sara's win. The most improved went to Laneisha who cut 1:11 off her personal best. Also we sliced off another minute from our team spread getting it down to 2:37 from our first to our 5th beaver and that was significant for us. We are really looking forward to NorCal Championships and State Meet to come", says Coach Powless.

WOMEN'S CROSS COUNTRY-FRESNO INVITATIONAL

During their first competition this cross country season, the lady beavers captured 9th place at the Fresno Invitational among the 21 competing teams from all over the State of California. They were the third team from northern California behind Hartnell and De Anza.

ARC's only returning sophomore, from Colfax High School, Sara Howard led her squad by finishing 15th in the 5k at (19:46). Just one second behind was freshman Marissa Mendez (19:47) from Visa del Lago HS for 16th, freshman Haley Walker was 59th (21:28) from Colfax HS, followed by freshman Madison Houk 63rd (21:32) from El Camino HS. Sophomore Laneisha Barnette finished 113th (23:47) from Sacramento City, freshman Monica Madavi was 131st (24:50) from El Camino HS and freshman Rosa Guerrero finished 146th (25:19) from Rosemont HS.

"With just one returning sophomore we have a very young and inexperienced team. The good news is that we have a huge margin for improvement and should improve more than any other team out there with hard work and commitment", says Coach Powless.
