CCCAA Men's Water Polo: Scoreboard l Standings
STOCKTON - The Diablo Valley College men's water polo team enjoyed a perfect weekend at San Joaquin Delta College's William Anttila Tournament, sweeping wins over Merced, American River, Las Positas and Ohlone on Friday and Saturday, improving to 7-2 on the season.
Ethan Braga had a game-high seven goals as the Vikings opened with a close 15-11 win over Merced. They used a strong first half to an 8-3 lead into intermission before Merced was able to rally a goal closer in the final tally. Jack Bustabade scored four goals for Merced while goalie Austin Escobar finished with 13 saves. Braga tallied six more goals later in the day as Diablo Valley posted a dominating 18-0 win over American River. The Vikings scored seven times in the first quarter and never looked back, opening an 11-0 lead at halftime and then extending it throughout the second half.
Another strong start, this time coming in the form of an 8-2 halftime lead, helped propel Diablo Valley to a 14-8 victory over Las Positas. Nathan Lyckfors led the way with a game-high five goals while Braga contributed a trio of assists. Ross brown scored four times for Las Positas, which had 14 of their 25 shots saved by Vikings goalie Jonny Beridze. Diablo Valley's final win of the weekend came via another shutout, this time 10-0 over Ohlone. Braga had game-highs with five goals and four assists to lead the Vikings attack.
For the weekend, Diablo Valley outscored their four opponents, 51-19. The Vikings return to action on Wednesday with games against San Joaquin Delta and Las Positas in Livermore.
