Beavers Perform Well at Individual Championships

The ARC men's tennis team finished third in points at the Individual State championships at Ojai. Only Irvine Valley and Glendale earned more individual victories in the tournament than the Beavers. All six singles starters, and all three doubles teams, qualified for the prestigious event, and all earned wins in the tournament. The standout performer for the Beavers was Gavin Sonntag, who became the thirteenth player in program history to reach the singles quarterfinal at the state championships, and also made it to the fourth round in doubles with Enrique Silveira. Silveira also made a good run in singles, reaching the fourth round before falling to eventual semifinalist, Sufyan Ashraf (IVC), in a hard fought straight-set match. In the doubles, all three teams won at least one round. Silveira/Sonntag went furthest, but lost a heart-breaking 7-6 (4), 7-6 (5) match to Hunter Lynch and Thomas Lynch from San Diego City College in the third round. Silveira and Sonntag were attempting to repeat their tremendous run at Ojai from the previous season, but were stopped short by the crafty and talented brother tandem from San Diego in an incredibly close match that showcased both teams high level of play. Although they could not repeat their semifinal run in doubles from the 2024, both Silveira and Sonntag went further in singles than they had in their freshman season. This was the last event of the season for the Beavers which saw them win their 12th consecutive conference title and reach at least the state semifinals for the 11th straight year. "It was a unique group that was as supportive and caring for one another as I have ever experienced." Explained coach Bo Jabery Madison. "We were so close in so many ways to breaking through and achieving unapparelled results for the program, but what will really stands out when looking back on this team is the effort they played with and the brotherly love that they had for each other. It was a special season."
