Battle in the 916 - ARC Beavers take home a win against Sierra College
Wednesday ARC traveled across town to take on Sierra College. The ARC Women entered the competition ranked 5th in the state and Sierra College 4th. The Battle in the 916 brought in spectators from neighboring water polo clubs and high schools to watch the closely ranked rivals.
The Beavers took a 5-3 lead in the first quarter, but Sierra battled back to leave the score tied 8-8 at the end of the first half. ARC changed their approach and outscored their opponent 7-4 in the second half with a standout performance by sophomore utility Heidi Sherman leading the team with 5 goals including 2 penalty shots. Freshman defender Mila Kimball had a well-rounded performance with 3 goals, 3 assists, and 5 steals. Other noteworthy performances include freshman goalkeeper, Brooke Boyer, with 7 blocks, 3 steals and an end of the period score from her own 7-meter line, and a solid center defender performance from sophomore Claire Contreras who helped the team generate 17 steals.
The Beavers hit the road next week traveling to Stockton to play Delta College on September 24th, then travel to the Mt. SAC tournament September 26-27, to play the top two seeds in the state.
