Hawks go 2-2 to open season at West Valley Nyquist Tournament

The Las Positas College men's water polo team finally made its return to the pool and split its four games on its opening weekend at the West Valley College Nyquist Tournament in Saratoga.

The season got off to a rough start on Friday for the Hawks as they suffered a 14-3 loss to Sierra College and were edged 10-7 by Ohlone College. But Las Positas bounced back on Saturday to defeat San Joaquin Delta College 9-7 and closed out the tourney with an 11-9 win over American River College.

The Hawks offense couldn't get much going in their opening game against Sierra. Kyle Young scored twice and Zachary Perry had a goal while LPC goalie Quentin Perry made 10 saves in the loss.

Las Positas held a narrow 6-5 lead at halftime against Ohlone but went cold in the second half scoring just once to allow Ohlone to take the victory.

Perry did his best to keep the Hawks in the game as he posted 18 saves. Ross Brown led LPC with three goals.

Luca Cupoletti scored three goals to help lead LPC to its first win of the season over Delta on Saturday. Six others scored single goals for the Hawks to contribute to the victory. Perry had a season-high 19 saves to help lock down the win.

In the Hawks' closeout victory over American River, Young went off on offense to lead LPC with a season-high seven goals. Zachary Perry had two goals while Cade Venables and Jacob Fogelstrom also scored. Quentin Perry totaled nine saves for the win.

Las Positas (2-2) returns to action on Tuesday (Sep. 14) when the Hawks travel to San Joaquin Delta College for a 4 p.m. non-conference game.
